People at the Core of the Story
In 2021, a ministerial decision established the Mahd Sports Academy as the Kingdom’s largest national project dedicated to developing future champions. The academy focuses on both physical and intellectual development, targeting youth across a wide range of individual and team sports.
In May 2025, the academy announced the launch of 16 branches across all regions of Saudi Arabia through the “Takween” program, in partnership with the Ministry of Education. The initiative aims to identify and nurture talent using internationally aligned training methodologies.
Community Momentum in Numbers
As Saudi Arabia continues to promote a sports-oriented culture, participation rates have increased significantly. The percentage of individuals engaging in sports rose from 13% in 2015 to 48% in 2022.
By 2024, more than 58% of adults (aged 18 and above) were participating in physical activity. This growth has been supported by the efforts of the Saudi Sports for All Federation, which has expanded access through community events, marathons, and cycling races.
National Talent at the Center of the Ecosystem
Development efforts have not been limited to athletes on the field; they have also focused on building national administrative and managerial talent capable of leading the sports sector.
In this context, the Sports Investment Forum was established as a platform bringing together investors and decision-makers to define the future roadmap of the sports industry, while enabling national talent to lead clubs and sports institutions.
Women’s Empowerment: Participation and Leadership
Saudi women have seen significant advancement within the sports sector, both in competitive participation and leadership roles. Their presence has become an integral component of the broader sports transformation, contributing to a more inclusive and balanced development model.
A Structured Path Forward
Saudi Arabia’s sports strategy is progressing through a clear framework: a well-developed human foundation, advanced infrastructure, and qualified leadership driving the industry toward global competitiveness.
