The Human Being: The Beginning of the Story
In 2021, a ministerial decision was issued to establish Mahd Sports Academy as the Kingdom’s largest national initiative dedicated to developing future champions. The Academy focuses on holistic physical and intellectual development, targeting youth across a wide range of individual and team sports.
In May 2025, the Academy announced the launch of 16 branches across all regions of the Kingdom through the “Takween” Program, in partnership with the Ministry of Education. This initiative aims to identify and nurture talent and refine athletic potential in line with world-class curricula and international best practices.
Community Momentum in Numbers
As part of the Kingdom’s efforts to promote a strong sports culture, the percentage of Saudis practicing sports rose from 13% in 2015 to 48% in 2022.
By 2024, the percentage of adults aged 18 and above engaging in physical activity exceeded 58%, supported by the initiatives of the Saudi Sports for All Federation, including community events, marathons, and cycling races.
National Capabilities at the Heart of the Ecosystem
Development has extended beyond producing champions on the field to building national administrative and leadership capabilities capable of driving and leading the sports sector.
In this context, the Sports Investment Forum was established as a strategic platform that brings together investors and decision-makers to shape the future roadmap of sports in Saudi Arabia, while empowering national talent to lead clubs and sports institutions.
Women’s Empowerment: Athletic and Leadership Presence
Saudi women have experienced significant empowerment in the sports sector, both in competitive participation and leadership roles, making female representation a core pillar of the Kingdom’s comprehensive sports renaissance.
